'River, what happened?' he asked frightened. She did not answer him, just sat on the floor, her knees pulled to her chest, and slowly swang. On her cheeks tears run down.
'River?!' he froze. He squatted beside her and held her tight. Her eyes were far away.
'River?' he whispered. She did not react. She just swang and the tears fell from her eyes.
'River...' he hugged her and kissed her hair desperately. 'River speak to me. Tell me.'
She did not look at him. Her voice fell dead.
'She's gone.' she said simply. The she looked at him, slowly, and she repeated.
'She's gone.' she looked in his eyes which were horrified now. His voice wasn't more than a breath.
'Gone...' his face froze. Suddenly she broke out in sobbing. Her whole body shook with agony and she screamed. She buries her face in his shoulder as her tears fell. He hugged her frozen.
'Gone...' he whispered.
'I couldn't help her... She just died... I couldn't give her a life, no regeneration energy, nothing!...' she sobbed. He remembered how she saved him from death and squeezed his eyes till they hurt him. He began to cry with silent tears...
They stayed so for a long time. Non of them thought, non of them spoke just cried and cried until tears ran out from their eyes. Then they stayed still and just hugged each other, sitting on ther floor and the TARDIS hummed for them with sorrow.
Hours passed till anybody made a noise. Then River broke the hug and wiped her face with her hand. She sniffled once again and bowed her head.
'She would've been a beautiful little girl.' she said with a sorrowful smile.
'She would've been like me.' the Doctor said, not meeting her eyes. 'If she'd been like you, she would've held on.' he rubbed his eyes with his fingers and began to cry once again. Now River hugged him tight and shushed in his ears.
'Sssh Honey. Ssssh...' she whispered with tears in her eyes again.
'Oh why couldn't I just give you a normal ife with a stable home without danger?!' he screamed. 'Why couldn't I?!'
'Ssh, it's okay Sweetie, it's okay. I never wanted a life close to normal. I wanted you. And you go with difficulties. And I love it. Love everything about you...'
'But maybe the she could've lived...'
A single tear fell from her eye.
'It's not your fault. It's not our fault.' she said silently and crying.
'Then whose fault is it?!' asked he angrily.
'Don't know Sweetie... Don't know...' she closed her eyes and caressed his back. They fell silent once again. The he lifted his head and looked into her beautiful broken blue eyes. He held her face in his hands.
'River, do you love me? Do you love me after all of this? 'Cause I hurt you. I hurt you all the time. I wanted her I promise and if I could I would give her all of my lives just to know she would be alright but I couldn't River I couldn't. I didn't even know she was dying.'
He pressed his forehead to hers and closed his eyes.
'I know.' she said simply. 'And I love you even when you hurt me. But not now. You don't hurt me now, you did not even hurt me when you gave her to me and I won't ever sorry about her tiny life. I'll love her although I couldn't see her with my eyes but she was mine – she was ours. She was our daughter, although she couldn't hold on till she could see the suns and the beautiful world around us. She was ours, and I'll always love what's ours 'cause it means you are here to me and till you're here to me I'm happy – whatever happens, whatever lost we suffer, whatever hurt we cause each other.'
She held his head in her hands and spoke weakly but confident and he understood what she said. He lifted his head and saw the sadness in her eyes and sighed heavily.
'Oh River Song. My beautiful, strong and so beloved River Song...' he wiped a tear from her cheek. 'You do not know how much you mean to me. I love you so much... I can't say it with words, the whole universe isn't big enough to tell you how much I love you...'
He kissed her deeply – yet not with passion but full with love and sadness. And she kissed him back to let him know she loved him the same way. When they parted there was calmness on their faces. He pulled her on her feet, but saw the weakness and shake in her limbs, so he picked her up in his arms and she rested her head on his shoulder. He slowly brought her to their room and put her on the bed. She was fast asleep from bitterness but when he covered her and wanted to leave, she caught his arm.
'Don't go away. Don't ever go away from me. Not from now.' she said her eyes shut. He turned back with a sad smile on his face.
'Never ever leave you alone, Miss Song. Never. I promise.'
'Come here.'
He went back to the bed.
'Lay down. I need you here with me.' she said her eyes still shut. He obeyed and climbed over her under the cover. He put his arms around her and kissed her neck lightly. She stroked his arm.
'I love you Doctor.'
'I love you Melody.' he said and kissed her cheek. 'Sleep well. Have nice dreams. Forget.' he whispered and caressed her hair with sorrow. Then slowly he fell asleep too, beside his beautiful strong woman who once carried his daughter under her hearts.
