She stood on the rock like it wasn't houndred meters above the roaring waves. The wind snapped at her long robe and ruffled her curly hair. She heard the TARDIS materializing noise. She smiled a bit. He always left the breaks on. She looked at unseen shores when he reached her and put his hand on her arm. She turned and smiled at him wearily. He looked broken and full of pain. She knew when he was. He wore a long purple coat and a waistcoat. And the chain. No one but her knew it held a hunter. But only he knew it was a hunter which counted the hours of hers. Backwards.
He held her hand in his and bowed his head. She touched his face gently.
'I know you are fighting.' She said with a sad smile. He nodded.
'Yes... But tell me the wars you're fighting behind the smile you're hiding.' He asked silently. He did not met her eyes.
She sighed and her smile faded. She grabbed his hand between hers and squeezed it. She shook her head.
'Please...' He asked so broken... She did not answer just looked away.
'River... ' He sighed sorrowful. 'I can't fight you anymore. Please, tell me.' He looked at her without passion.
She let his hand go and turned back to the see. She was cold and he saw it when she started to shiver. He took off his coat and overlaid on her shoulders. She give him a pale smile and covered herself with it. He stepped to her and wreathed his arms around her from the back. she smoothed his arm and sighed.
'You know you have to let me go...' She said weakly. He held her tighter and nodded.
'We tried the best to find us but there are no lights to guide us. Time is running out from our hands.' She said it full with sorrow. He squeezed his eyes and covered his face in her hair.
'I don't want to let you go. I don't want to loose you again.' He sad with pain. He suffered so much these times... He lost his Ponds and she left him too and now she was to go again. The hunter ticked silently.
She turned suddenly and looked into his eyes.
'Take me to Darillium. You keep saying you'll take me there one time but you'd never. Take me now. I want to hear those Towers singing.' She said. He shook his head. He knew one day it will come to this. She and he at the Singing Towers of Darillium. He fought against it for so long... But now he knew time was there.
'River...' He said with his eyes tearing. 'Please don't ask this. Please... Please everything but Darillium.'
She looked in his suffering eyes and frowned.
'Why not? What's against Darillium?' She asked. He shook his head.
'You know exactly...'
'Spoilers.' She guessed with a fading smile.
'River... Piece by piece we fall apart, with every beat slows down my heart 'cause I know I have to loose you.' He was almost sobbing. He lent his forehead to met hers and squezzed his eyes.
'I don't want to loose you. Not again.'
She hugged him tightly although she did not understand exactly what he ment on 'again'. She smoothed his hair gently.
'If you can't let me go, then I have to – although I don't know why.' She began after minuits cuddling.
'No... River... Please...' The horror in his eyes frightened her. He knew these words. She did it in the Library too. Not allow him to take the task.
She looked in his eyes with love – she wanted to calm him. But he looked so lorn... So alone... So full with pain... But she knew he couldn't do it. So it was her task again. The hard words.
'I'll just say what you won't say and I take the blame if it's for you're sake.' She continued. 'No turning back on what you can't save. Whatever it is. Never turn back.' She smoothed his face but he stepped back and gave a cry which frightened her.
'Never! Never tell me not to turn back! Never tell me I can't save anything! I'm the Doctor! I'm the last of the Time Lords and I can do anything!' He was shouting now. She stepped back and loose her body-blance. She stood on the very edge of the rock, she was centimeters from falling but he caught her arm.
'Don't you think you can escape me so easily.' He said as he pulled her back and squeezed her tightly. Her hearts were beating hard, her breath snatching. She felt death so near...
He squeezed her for a long time.
'You know that prison cell used to be a shelter compare to this.' She said weakly smiling. 'I was always looking for the best way out. But it seemed so peaceful compare living free without you.'
He held her hand and lent her back to the TARDIS. One thing give him strenght when not hope. They had one last date left. And it would be gorgeous.
The TARDIS hummed peacefully for them. She knew what she knew and was never of letting them now. They sat on the stairs arms around each other. None of them spoke just enjoyed the presence of each other. They would not for long.
After a while River stood up and took the coordinates in. She flew her always so gently, so gracefully. She liked her for that and the Doctor knew it. He knew this was the next to last fly of hers so he let her fly her as she would like to. And the TARDIS enjoy her fingertips.
She went back to him and offered her hand. He took it and gave her a kiss on it before standing up. They walked to the door. Before opening she turned to him and kissed him deeply. He longered the kiss and held his tears back. When they parted she opened the door and looked back once more on his face. She look the sad pain in his eyes.
'So this is the face of letting go?' She asked with a pale smile. He nodded and bowed his head.
'Be brave Sweetheart.' She said it with love but her smile faded. 'Tell me: will we meet again?'
He smiled painfully.
'Yes. Yes we will. I'll be here for you some day. Be prepared. I'll take you to Darillium at last.'
He said the last two word with a wierd accent. 'At last'. She remembered these words. She kissed him once again and turned from the door.
'See you then Sweetie.' She looked back once again and then disappeared in the night. He stood in the door for a couple of minuits and then closed it. He slipped on the floor and pulled the hunter out from his pocket. It stood almost on zero already.
