Stay the Night

It was a nice day. River, her parents and the Doctor were on a 'family trip' as he called it. Not the first, not the last (he hoped). But always good time, always fun, always calm, without danger or running for their lives. He's planned it for a couple of days but there was many to do and many to run, save planets and spaceships of kind races. But finally they got it: the deserved togetherness, on Space California - lot of beaches under the three suns and seven moons. They arrived afternoon – well, it was actually afternoon every time, 'cause one of the three suns was almost every time on the sky. Amy loved it.

They laid on the beach and sunsbathed. River sighed.

'You know it's a perfect day.' She murmured satisfied. 'Twenty-two degrees, zero chance of rain...'

The Doctor smiled happily. He could finally give her something which made her happy. He looked at her and amazed on her beauty. She wore a black swimsuit with a kerchief on her waist and sunglasses. He laid beside her on the sand-like soil but now he raised on his elbow. He looked down on her with love. She looked so calm, so harmless, so young... He sighed. She was definitely young. Locked in Stormcage for two month.

Suddenly Amy raised.

'Wanna go swim. Anybody with me?' She asked. Rory raised too and held her hands.

'Sure, wife.' He said and stood up.

'Go, I'll enjoy the suns a bit more. No suns at Stormcage, just rain all the time.' She smiled without blame.

'Doctor?' Amy asked.

'Nah, I'm stayin' too. Love the suns.' Amy nodded understanding and pulled her husband toward the water.

As they were off, the Doctor turned to River.

'Can I ask something?' He said. She nodded and hummed but did not turn her head from the suns.

'Did you ever regret?' He asked without looking at her. He drew circels in the sand.

She raised on her elbow and took the sunglasses off. She frowned.

'Regret what?' She asked. He did not look at her.

'Saving me. Use up all your regeneration energy.'

She got nervous.

'You're an idiot.' She said simply and laid back taking back her sunglasses.

'Sorry what?!' He looked up annoyed.

'As I told. You're and idiot.' She raised again and took off her sunglasses. She looked into his eyes and continued.

'How could I ever regret having you?!' She sighed. 'If you think I regret what I did you're an idiot. I love you moron.'

She used her mothers words. He couldn't do anything but smile sadly.

'Oh don't do this. Don't blame yourself. It was me who killed you. It was me who had to bring you back. And I don't regret. No any act which keep you safe and alive.' She looked at him with love.

'Not if you are in prison 'cause of me?' He looked guiltily.

'No. Never. You are alive and that's what matters. I don't care if I have to spend my life in prison (which actually I have to) still I know you're alive.'

He smiled sadly.

'And you are my wife, River Song, the woman whom I married.' He reached for her face and pulled her closer. 'And I love you with all my hearts.' He said and kissed her.

'And if this is what we've got, then what we've got is gold.' She smiled when they parted.

They heard a cry and loud laugh from the distans. They laughed.

'Look at them. The Ponds. The girl and boy who waited.' He smiled. Amy ran from Rory who was to catch her and she cried aloud when he reached. They played merrily in the water.

The Doctor looked at his wife.

'I can't imagin my life without them. Or you even more.' He held her chin in his hand and kissed her.

'C'mon River, we have your parents to push in the water!' He stood up and pulled her with him. She laughed.

'Nnno, Sweetie I want to sunbath!' She relucted.

'That's bad news 'cause if you don't want me to pick you up to the water you'll have to run. So run!'

She laughed heartily and started to run. He had to pick up. She was a great runner. They ran laughing towards the Ponds who stood now laughing also as they neared. After a minuit they were all in the water frisking and waterfighting and laughing around. Then Rory had an idea: they picked up their wives in their neck and started to balance while they were pushing each other. They had great fun.

In the evening – at those few minuits when the last sun setted and the first wasn't on the sky yet – they were sitting on a hill by the TARDIS and watched the setting sun. It was orange and purple and pink and blue at once. The women's head at their husband's shoulder, their feet swinging from the edge of the rock. The Doctor smelled into River's locks and held her tight.

After half an hour or something Amy stood up and grabbed Rory's hand.

'I think I'm going to bed. Thank you Doctor, for everything.' She gave a kiss on the top of his head and pulled up her husband.

'Thank you Doc.' Rory nodded and followed her into the TARDIS. The Doctor smiled and waved. He and River stayed alone. He held her hand. They did not speak. They knew there wouldn't be a time better than sitting still on a rock holding each other and watching the sunset. It was simply perfect.

After a time he sighed. Without moving he started to speak.

'So... What now, Miss Song? The morning's on its way, our friends all said goodbye...' He held a small pause. 'I know you have to go back. But just for this once, couldn't you just stay the night?' He asked. She hummed and hugged him tighter.

'Sweetie... You know I can't. I promise I would like to, but I can't. Have to go back, for you.' She said it sadly but completely satisfied, without anger. His mood sank.

'Damn it I had to die!' He said annoyed. She giggled. Not a sentence which is said too many times.

'But... if you behave well...' she sighed 'I can take you with me in my prison cell. But I warn you: we have to share a shelter of my single bed.' She said with a flirting wink.

He looked surprised but smiled playfully.

'You bad girl Doctor Song.' He kissed her. 'Come on then. We don't have to wait till your parents wake up.' He winked at her and helped her up. They walked back to the TARDIS with arms around each other.
